Home Biz Entrepreneurs – What’s Your Business?

There are so many millions of products and services in the world that you could pick any one or several and build a successful business around it. Don’t be fooled by the ‘old wive’s tale that any market is ‘saturated’. As long as whichever niche you are interested in is based on ‘making money’ then as long as people want to do that there will be no glut. Don’t think of all the reasons you might fail, but why you might succeed!

In many cases, if more people realized that they are not required to lay out a huge investment to buy inventory, they would know that they are actually able to start out on a ‘shoe string’ if their business is all or in part Internet-based. That’s the beauty of the virtual world. A picture or image and a description will do quite nicely when added to a website or blog. If you have a source for the product or service, then all you need is a free payment button and a simple order form and you can get started.

With the model described above it is actually still a little more labor-intensive not only to set up but to maintain. It is ‘good to go’ but not exactly ‘passive’ which is the ideal online. Passive or autopilot means that you do not have to interact with your customers on a regular basis to process their orders. Yet you may generate sales even while fast asleep. This is where the beauty of affiliate marketing programs comes in. These programs do it all from setting it up to running it for you. All you need to do is go to the bank with your commissions as far as your participation in the sales transaction.

With that said, however you still have an important job. That is to market and advertise to promote your business. While you don’t have to be there 24/7 to do this, you do need to be fairly aggressive and consistent. It doesn’t matter how good your stuff is because nobody knows it is there or anything about it unless you tell them. So you can use various strategies to get your message out there.

Of course eMail marketing is a main Internet marketing technique that will allow you to reach thousands of people using an autoresponder and a list of prospects. There are various resources you can use to build that list and keep building it so that you always have ‘fresh’ possibilities.

It is also very important to follow-up with the existing list as not all people will say yes. In fact the statistic used for many years is that someone may have to see something 5 or 6 times before they actually take action. So don’t give up after the first time.

What Going the Extra Mile Says About you

Starting with the opposite extreme, there are those people who merely take up a chair for 8-hours a day when ‘working’. They do the minimum they can get away with and rarely make any effort to do a ‘good job’. They couldn’t care less about the company or the customers. They only do as much as they do just to get their paycheck. They watch the clock incessantly.

It’s really sad to think of how unhappy these people really are, whether it is conscious or subconscious. It is much more normal even with an average worker for them to want to do a good job and to derive gratification from being thanked or appreciated for doing so. The promise of experiencing this may spur them on to do a good job each time they are called upon. They merely do the best they can.

With the ‘stars’ that really love their jobs and love helping others, ‘going the extra mile’ is something they take pride in. They may even use their initiative to be pro-active about issues and are seen as real “people pleasers”. They go above and beyond their job description and although they secretly must hope someone in authority will reward them someday, they just like knowing they did a good job.

What ‘going the extra mile’ says here is that the people who do are happy, generous people and they are to be envied. Hopefully somebody will notice and reward their efforts fairly. If not, then maybe they will ‘go the extra mile’ for themselves someday and realize they are capable of doing much more than what is expected of them or acknowledged.

This is a typical reason to start a business. Just right there from the get, it shows that the person is very bright and capable to believe that they can always do more. They could slide by with the status quo and just try to be satisfied with whatever the world has in store for them as long as they can pay their bills and survive decently; but no – instead they realize they can do more and they eventually take action.

It is very likely the same attitude that always pleased everyone that they came in contact with in their career will shine through when they are in charge! Now there is nothing stopping them to really give more of themselves to help others! Whatever their business is or does is bound to be a success with one of these bright and shining stars at the helm. Make it be YOU!

Home Business Start-Up – Follow Directions

To many people one of the most attractive aspects of starting a business is that they can do things their way. There is no longer the requirement to do things someone else’s way or on their timeline. While this is certainly an exciting prospect, if you do not know what to do you are going to be very disoriented.

learn which way to go

It is always best to learn how things are done properly before one gets creative. Even an experienced manager when taking over a new business, will not just go in and pull the rug out from under. He will learn how things are being done and observe what seems to work and what could be improved. Then to whatever degree he will start to plan on making changes.

Many times people are just so excited that they are all over the place and not really thinking logically. They have no idea what to do even when they have training right in front of them because they are so busy wasting their time. What develops is someone who is spinning their wheels, not making much progress and really not grasping the big picture. Inevitably they will quit because they never did settle down and figure it out logically.

It takes a little humility to admit you need to learn what to do. Then it takes some patience and discipline to actually take the time to learn how things are done. When you are going the right way however, there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ and you can actually begin to see how things work.

When you have had a career in business, you have enjoyed the benefit of their structure. They had systems, forms, and procedures in place and all you had to do was learn how to use them. However, when you are starting your own business, you need to develop the structure from the ground up.

Of course for a small home business things do not need to be nearly as complicated or sophisticated as they are for a big business, but on a scaled down basis, there are some basics that you will need to have, such as a business plan, an operating budget, a flexible work schedule, and a billing or accounting system just to name a few. These can be very simple done on spreadsheets or to-do type lists.

Of course included in the learning curve would be if you are participating in affiliate or distributorship programs. You would need to take some time to read their website to see what they are about, what the product is and some factual information that you can use in your advertising copy about both. You would want to familiarize yourself with their compensation plan so you know what to expect.

Now you are at the beginning and from here on out you are free. Once you understand what is necessary and correct, then you can make things your way – more efficient, etc. Now you can have fun developing your business in the way that you envision.
